The Treasure on the Mountain
by Archbishop Robert J. Guffey of Texas
I’m sure most of you who have been with the CSP for any length of time know I often get inspiration for sermons from songs I listen to, and this is no exception.
While listening to an old song by Joan Baez Called “One Tin Soldier” For those of you who are not of my generation and I know there are a lot of you I will try to explain the song, but you really need to listen to it for yourself.
The song talks about people living in a valley and people living on a mountain the people on the mountain supposedly had a treasure buried on it and it was a secret, however the people in the valley knew of the treasure and decided they wanted the treasure for themselves.
The send a message to the people on the mountain asking for the treasure or they would kill them all. The people on the mountain replied they would share the secrets of the mountain with their brothers, along with the treasure buried there.
This was not the answer the valley people wanted to hear so they rose up and killed all the people on the mountain and then when they found the treasure it was not gold or silver but only a message.
The message I think is the important thing.
The message speaks of what we should all strive for the message is a simple one.
Are you interested now to find out what the message was that was worth more than all the gold and silver in the world?
If so scroll down.
The message was buried beneath a stone on the mountain and when they turned the stone over the message was a very simple message.
The message was: “Peace On Earth” I think that’s what we all need to strive for peace on earth. Not killing each other over religious beliefs or color or creed. If we could all learn that simple message what a beautiful world this would be.
Agree or disagree it’s your call and this is only my opinion.
Thank you for reading.
